Cross-country ski trails in Ötztal

In the nordic track

The cross-country skiing network within Ötztal extends over a total length of 143 kilometers. From the entrance to the valley to its rear end there are easy practice trails, enjoyable classic and skating trails, snow-reliable high altitude trails and even the opportunity to prove your own marksmanship in a taster biathlon. Floodlit Nordic night trails complete Ötztal’s cross-country ski offer which is for free.

The night trail in Niederthai is lit from Monday - Wednesday from 4:00 - 9:00 pm and the night trail in Längenfeld is lit from Wednesday - Friday from 4:00 - 9:00 pm.

Cross-country skiing in Niederthai

Niederthai, the "sun-kissed balcony" of Ötztal, lives up to its name as the valley’s true Mecca of cross-country skiing. Thanks to its high altitude (at approx. 1500 m), snow is guaranteed and there is a huge choice of trails: 8 nordic tracks for all ability levels can be mastered in both classic and skating style. But that's still not everything: The laser shooting range lets you get a taste of biathlon sports under professional guidance while you do your laps on the floodlit "Frühloipe" cross-country ski trail under the starry sky.

Cross-country skiing in Längenfeld & Gries

Just a few kilometers towards the southern part of the valley from Niederthai, Längenfeld and Gries is the second major cross-country ski center in Ötztal. If you are looking for extensive and fairly flat nordic skiing trails, you have come to the right place in the valley basin around Längenfeld: there are some 50 kilometers of classic style and skating cross-country ski tracks available. If you only get going in the evening hours, you can still work out on the floodlit night track (either classic style or skating). Precision is required at the taster biathlon which can be tried out every Wednesday in winter.

In Gries im Sulztal on Längenfeld’s "upper floor", snow-reliable high altitude trails attract real "endurance animals" on two skis to improve their stamina and skill again - the breathtaking high alpine landscape is a true reward for all efforts.

More cross-country ski trails in Ötztal

Already at the entrance to Ötztal, it's getting comfortable in top conditions: the easy cross-country loop trail in Ochsengarten leads along snow-covered, meter-high spruce forests and clearings in the direction of Kühtai.

The two destinations of Sölden and Gurgl are best known for their premium ski areas. But if you are looking for a change from having fun on the slopes, you will get your money's worth in both Sölden and Gurgl.

Last but not least, the mountaineering village of Vent in the furthest corner of Ötztal also boasts two cross-country ski trails with absolute snow guarantee, which can be tackled both in classic and skating style. Given the impressive mountain backdrop, you shouldn't forget to look ahead!
