The tour to Schwarzkogl begins at the top station of the Giggijochbahn (approx. 2,284 m). From here, a well-maintained trail leads uphill in wide switchbacks to the Rotkogl Hut at around 2,660 m. This section already offers impressive views of the surrounding Ötztal mountains.

After a short break at the hut, the path continues as a narrower mountain trail, passing small alpine streams and the scenic Schwarzsee (approx. 2,790 m). This part of the hike is characterized by high-alpine terrain and offers plenty of picture-perfect moments. The route then ascends across open terrain toward the former Schwarzkogl lift station.

The final ascent to the summit is steeper and crosses scree fields, though no climbing is required. Surefootedness, a good level of fitness, and proper hiking boots are essential. Upon reaching the summit of Schwarzkogl at 3,016 m, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Ötztal Alps.

The descent follows the same route back via Schwarzsee, Rotkogl Hut, and the Giggijochbahn. Alternatively, the hike can be extended or combined with other routes in the area.
