OPEN FACES 4*Freeride Event

OPEN FACES 4*Freeride Event: CANCELLED!

Due to safety reasons and the poor snow cover on the famous "Hangerer", which will not change in the coming days, we regretfully have to cancel the all-important 4* Challenger. We hope to make a comeback next year with the Freeride Week Gurgl 2024 and thank you for your commitment up to this point.

Gurgl hosts the unrivaled 4*OPEN FACES Freeride Contest once again, signing the scene‘s marvelous end-of-season highlight. The picture-book „face“ promises loads of action and thrilling moments for spectators in the Public Area of Hohe Mut Alm, located right opposite the slope.

End of the season & highlight of the Freeride World Qualifier Tour

The OPEN FACES 4* Freeride Contest held in Gurgl is part of the OPEN FACES Freeride Series which, in turn, belongs to the Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) Tour. Participants in the 4* event in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl - a contest in the highest category of the Qualifier Tour - can score a lot of points if they win. These FWQ points are important for taking part in the unrivaled Freeride World Tour. Only the best riders in the world are allowed to compete in this "premier class" on the powder stashes and fight for the coveted World Champion Title. The qualification is scheduled via the FWQ Tour with contests in two regions - in Europe and overseas.

"Hangerer": a face that has it all

The contest in Gurgl takes place at "Hangerer", a mountain that resembles an awe-inspiring king with a majestic face. Not without reason, the "Hangerer" ranks among the most challenging faces of the entire scene. Also Manuela Mandl knows that, reigning Freeride World Tour World Champion, 3-times winner of the "Hangerer": "In Obergurgl-Hochgurgl there are some variants where I can really go to the limit and beyond, for example on the "Hangerer" face. At the same time, there are very lovely options close to the ski slopes within the area, which are really fun even in poor visibility. The choice of terrain is huge, the panorama a truly unique highlight. And even many days after the last fresh snow has fallen you can find untouched powder runs with a bit of muscle power."

Great view of drops and turns

Freeride fans get together in the public area of Hohe Mut Alm on the contest day. The mountain restaurant is easily accessible also for non-skiers thanks to the comfy Hohe Mut mountain gondola. Up there you enjoy the best view of runs and riders. Passionate fans won't miss any detail of the contest happening as there is a huge LED screen with live feed.
